Your vehicle’s A/C system is important any time of the year. It is obvious that especially during the hot months of summer you don’t want to be faced with an urgent car ac repair. It is a common misconception that air conditioning systems are strictly for cooling air in the summer, but in fact, it is almost more important to use it during the cold and rainy seasons. How can this be? Contact your mechanic to schedule an inspection of the A/C system and to find out how much does car ac repair cost.

The following is a brief look at why car ac service is important for the winter.

      • It “conditions” the air - The A/C system acts as a dehumidifier and is essential for the defroster. This means that the air coming from your vents and defroster will be “dry” air. Winter is well known for frozen and icy windows. The interior of your car can get very humid and the windows get covered in condensation from the combination of your warm breath and damp clothes and shoes. To make sure the air coming from your defroster is as “dry” as possible so that it can defog the windows, turn the heater on to its warmest setting and hit the A/C button and the windows will clear up in no time at all.
      • Use it or lose it. - Many people think that if you want to keep the A/C system running for the life of your car it is best to save it for when you really need it. The opposite is true! Your car’s A/C system is filled with parts that are meant to move. If you don’t use it for a few months, parts like the compressor can seize. This is because it is full of refrigerant and oils that need to be circulated to keep the seals and pipes lubricated. If the coolant sits for long periods of time, the lubricant in the coolant will lose its effectiveness in keeping the rubber seals lubed. Bacteria and mold can also build up by leaving the interior of your car moist and humid.

Tips to Remember: The most important thing is to have the A/C system inspected by a certified mechanic periodically during the year so that it will last longer and be more efficient for winter as well as summer. Your mechanic can let you know exactly how much does car ac repair cost before beginning any work.
